OpenNMS so far …

About 2 months ago, we implemented OpenNMS Monitoring for the company. I’m an intern at the company assigned the task of evaluating and choosing a network monitoring system.

I evaluated a couple of products: Zabbix, Zenoss, Hyperic, and others. Did not like any of them, simply because it required the “extra” “enterprise” versions to actually get any useful information out of them. I hated that limitation especially considering they call themselves open source products.

Anyways, currently OpenNMS is up on an production OpenSuSe box, using version 1.6.2 (probably should upgrade). We really love OpenNMS because it does what it claims to do.

Here’s a sneak peak of what we monitor. Not all the devices have been added since we’re still in the testing phase of it all, but we monitor Servers, Routers, Switches, Access Points, Firewalls, other misc stuff.
